Week of Sept 1st

This must have ringed in my head for at least a week and I must share about it with you all.

It comes from my morning devotion on the bus and I can't help but going back to read it over and over again every few days. I am sure God is telling me something and I am trying to get all that He wants to say to me.

列 王 記 上 1 Kings 18:37-46, 19:1-18


18:37 耶 和 華 阿 、 求 你 應 允 我 、 應 允 我 、 使 這 民 知 道 你 耶 和 華 是 　 神 、 又 知 道 是 你 叫 這 民 的 心 回 轉 。
18:38 於 是 耶 和 華 降 下 火 來 、 燒 盡 燔 祭 、 木 柴 、 石 頭 、 塵 土 、 又 燒 乾 溝 裡 的 水 。
18:39 眾 民 看 見 了 、 就 俯 伏 在 地 、 說 、 耶 和 華 是 　 神 、 耶 和 華 是 　 神 。
18:40 以 利 亞 對 他 們 說 、 拿 住 巴 力 的 先 知 、 不 容 一 人 逃 脫 。 眾 人 就 拿 住 他 們 ． 以 利 亞 帶 他 們 到 基 順 河 邊 、 在 那 裡 殺 了 他 們 。
18:41 以 利 亞 對 亞 哈 說 、 你 現 在 可 以 上 去 喫 喝 、 因 為 有 多 雨 的 響 聲 了 。
18:42 亞 哈 就 上 去 喫 喝 。 以 利 亞 上 了 迦 密 山 頂 、 屈 身 在 地 、 將 臉 伏 在 兩 膝 之 中 ．
18:43 對 僕 人 說 、 你 上 去 、 向 海 觀 看 。 僕 人 就 上 去 觀 看 、 說 、 沒 有 甚 麼 。 他 說 你 再 去 觀 看 、 如 此 七 次 。
18:44 第 七 次 僕 人 說 、 我 看 見 有 一 小 片 雲 從 海 裡 上 來 、 不 過 如 人 手 那 樣 大 。 以 利 亞 說 、 你 上 去 、 告 訴 亞 哈 、 當 套 車 下 去 、 免 得 被 雨 阻 擋 。
18:45 霎 時 間 天 因 風 雲 黑 暗 、 降 下 大 雨 。 亞 哈 就 坐 車 、 往 耶 斯 列 去 了 。
18:46 耶 和 華 的 靈 〔 原 文 作 手 〕 降 在 以 利 亞 身 上 、 他 就 束 上 腰 、 奔 在 亞 哈 前 頭 、 直 到 耶 斯 列 的 城 門 。
19:1 亞 哈 將 以 利 亞 一 切 所 行 的 、 和 他 用 刀 殺 眾 先 知 的 事 、 都 告 訴 耶 洗 別 。
19:2 耶 洗 別 就 差 遣 人 去 見 以 利 亞 、 告 訴 他 說 、 明 日 約 在 這 時 候 、 我 若 不 使 你 的 性 命 像 那 些 人 的 性 命 一 樣 、 願 神 明 重 重 的 降 罰 與 我 。
19:3 以 利 亞 見 這 光 景 、 就 起 來 逃 命 、 到 了 猶 大 的 別 是 巴 、 將 僕 人 留 在 那 裡 。
19:4 自 己在 曠 野 走 了 一 日 的 路 程 、 來 到 一 棵 羅 騰 樹 下 ． 〔 羅 騰 小 樹 名 松 類 下 同 〕 就 坐 在 那 裡求 死 、 說 、 耶 和 華 阿 、 罷 了 ． 求 你 取 我 的 性 命 、 因 為 我 不 勝 於 我 的 列 祖 。
19:5 他 就 躺 在 羅 騰 樹 下 、 睡 著 了 ． 有 一 個 天 使 拍 他 、 說 、 起 來 喫 罷 。
19:6 他 觀 看 見 頭 旁 有 一 瓶 水 、 與 炭 火 燒 的 餅 、 他 就 喫 了 喝 了 、 仍 然 躺 下 。
19:7 耶 和 華 的 使 者 第 二 次 來 拍 他 、 說 、 起 來 喫 罷 、 因 為 你 當 走 的 路 甚 遠 ．
The angel of the LORD came back a second time and touched him and said, "Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you."
19:8 他 就 起 來 喫 了 喝 了 、 仗 著 這 飲 食 的 力 、 走 了 四 十 晝 夜 、 到 了 　 神 的 山 、 就 是 何 烈 山 。
19:9 他 在 那 裡 進 了 一 個 洞 、 就 住 在 洞 中 ． 耶 和 華 的 話 臨 到 他 說 、 以 利 亞 阿 、 你 在 這 裡 作 甚 麼 ．
19:10 他 說、 我 為 耶 和 華 萬 軍 之 　 神 大 發 熱 心 、 因 為 以 色 列 人 背 棄 了 你 的 約 、 毀 壞 了 你 的 壇 、用 刀 殺 了 你 的 先 知 、 只 剩 下 我 一 個 人 、 他 們 還 要 尋 索 我 的 命 。
19:11 耶 和華 說 、 你 出 來 站 在 山 上 、 在 我 面 前 。 那 時 耶 和 華 從 那 裡 經 過 、 在 他 面 前 有 烈 風 大 作、 崩 山 碎 石 、 耶 和 華 卻 不 在 風 中 ． 風 後 地 震 、 耶 和 華 卻 不 在 其 中 ．
19:12 地 震 後 有 火 、 耶 和 華 也 不 在 火 中 ． 火 後 有 微 小 的 聲 音 ．
After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.
19:13 以 利 亞 聽 見 、 就 用 外 衣 蒙 上 臉 、 出 來 站 在 洞 口 ． 有 聲 音 向 他 說 、 以 利 亞 阿 、 你 在 這 裡 作 甚 麼 ．
Then a voice said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"
19:14 他 說、 我 為 耶 和 華 萬 軍 之 　 神 大 發 熱 心 、 因 為 以 色 列 人 背 棄 了 你 的 約 、 毀 壞 了 你 的 壇 、用 刀 殺 了 你 的 先 知 、 只 剩 下 我 一 個 人 、 他 們 還 要 尋 索 我 的 命 。
19:15 耶 和 華 對 他 說 、 你 回 去 、 從 曠 野 往 大 馬 色 去 ． 到 了 那 裡 、 就 要 膏 哈 薛 作 亞 蘭 王 ．
The LORD said to him, "Go back the way you came, and go to the Desert of Damascus...
19:16 又 膏 寧 示 的 孫 子 耶 戶 作 以 色 列 王 ． 並 膏 亞 伯 米 何 拉 人 沙 法 的 兒 子 以 利 沙 作 先 知 接 續 你 。
19:17 將 來 躲 避 哈 薛 之 刀 的 、 必 被 耶 戶 所 殺 ． 躲 避 耶 戶 之 刀 的 、 必 被 以 利 沙 所 殺 ．
19:18 但 我 在 以 色 列 人 中 為 自 己 留 下 七 千 人 、 是 未 曾 向 巴 力 屈 膝 的 、 未 曾 與 巴 力 親 嘴 的 。

I know this is long, but please make sure you read what I've highlighted in Blue and also the translation in English as those are what I want to share about.

The background of this story, was that Elijah had just done a great thing to show the people of Israel the real God over Baal. Elijah then killed all the prophets of Baal 巴 力 and left the city. With the power of the Lord he ran faster then the king's chariot and arrived at a city called Jezreel ahead of Ahab. While he was in the city, someone wanted to kill him because he killed all the Baal's 巴 力 prophets.

After all that God had shown him and all he did for God, we all thought he wouldn't worry about someone trying to kill him. But instead he ran for his life. He ran and sat under a broom tree 羅 騰 樹 , complained to God and asked for death. In response God didn't punish him for his disbelieve. He fed him and gave him water to drink. He had angels attended to him twice. He let him slept till he regained his energy. Then God showed Himself to him. With all the blowing wind and fire, all the things that God really should be, He finally revealed himself in a gentle whisper asking, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"

Elijah respond was as dumb as he could ever be in my point of view. He simply stated what he did, but he wasn't really telling God why he ran, why he wanted death even though God was on his side. Obviously God wasn't asking a technical question, but Elijah's answer showed that he did not really understood what he did by the power of God and didn't connect with what God was.
God still didn't punish him for his stupidity. Instead He asked Elijah to go back to where he came from and continued his journey.

Sometimes we are really really dumb.
God does things through us but we don't see them.

Our spiritual eyes are blind as bats.
Yet He is still so gentle to us. 

He is the all powerful God, he is the God of wind and fire, and yet He chooses to reveal to us in a gentle whisper because we are too fragile.
When we are weak he let us sleep, get fed and rest up before He asks us to do His work for him again. To do His work again, we go back to where we've left off.

This passage really shows me what God's love is to me beyond His salvation.  He has his demands on me but that doesn't make God cruel.  He understands me better than myself.  He knows my limits.  

I've been gone from Him or His work for a long while now.  I've allocated a lot of time to my own life in the past few years.  Perhaps he is trying to call me back to where I've left off again.
